hooray for friday

The week of hell is mostly over. I still have to attend one more class and go to work. I'm having a hard time gathering the ambition to go to that class. I had an exam in my 8 am class which I flew through (finally a test that goes well...YES!) and I my class at 10 was cancelled. It makes it hard to sit here in the computer lab for half an hour when I know I could be at home taking a nap.

I'm also tossing around the idea of going to work an hour early. If I go in early, it's doubtful I'd get to leave early. I could use the money, but will the extra $10 make that much of a difference? Is it worth it? At this point, I'm thinking no. After doing nothing but study and work for the past 4 days, I'll probably take that hour to relax.

I'll be finding out how much my tax return is later today. Depending on the amount I get back, I may be fiscally irresponsible and hit submit on the order sitting in my amazon.com shopping cart. Or I might drive down to Sioux Falls and get the stupid iPod because I'm too impatient to wait for it to be delivered. I can always use the $25 gift certificate to buy the FM transmitter. I think I could wait for that.

Sarah, which iPod did you get? Do you like it? I'm thinking about getting the 30GB black one.

I'll try to do something outrageously fun this weekend because lately. I've been lacking in that department. Odds are it'll just be me drinking a lot. That'll be fun too.

Anyone have exciting plans for the weekend?

temporarily boring

There's been a lot going on this week and the next two days are pretty much going to be hell. I apologize for the recent lack of anything substantial. Hopefully after Friday my life will return to it's normal status of fun lovin. I might go blow a few hundred bucks this weekend to make myself feel better. Or I could be responsible and go to the library to do research. Or I could go out and drink a lot. Or I could stay at home and catch up on sleep. At this point, it's hard to say what will happen.

why yesterday was great

I had some free time. Of course, I could have used it to do something, but I put my foot down. I slept in, went to class, ate lunch and studied for a quiz, went to class to take said quiz, gave blood and then went home. I then proceeded to spend about 3 hours in front of my TV playing my new Harry Potter Gamecube game (yes, I know, I'm a nerd). After supper I went over to a friend's place to watch my favorite Thursday TV lineup (which included 2 episodes of My Name is Earl). Then the majority of my friends and I went to V for Vendetta. It was pretty A for awesome. I wasted 10 hours yesterday. I loved every minute of it.

our captain says there's nothing wrong

As promised (mostly for Sarah), here are pictures from the concert. Mr. Clyne and his Peacemakers rocked Skinners Pub. They played until 1 am, which included a long encore. Their opener, Taylor Hollinsworth, wasn't bad either. We picked up his cd, but I haven't had much of a chance to listen to it yet. The night was everything a girls night out should be: drinks, dancing, creepy guys hitting on us, nice guys hitting on us, nice guys buying us tequila shots, etc. I'll spare the details that don't matter, which are most of them. What needs to be said is that a good time was had by all. The title of this post are lyrics from the song "Beautiful Disaster". I thought it was fitting because I don't think my captain will have any objections to this post :) The first photo is my favorite. Overall, I love the way the black and white photos turned out. They always seem to be my favorite. That's all I've got for now.

a college weekend

After making trips to Shade's Vineyard to pick up wine for mom and Kings Wok for supper with friends, I found myself comfortably sitting at my friends' apartment watching the first season of The Office and drinking moderately. Then Derek and Al called. They were willing to pick us up, so Brit, Ace and I decided to go downtown with them for a couple of drinks. At the last bar we were doing a little dancing and all of a sudden *wham* I get unintentionally nailed in the back by Al, a 6'2", 350 pound guy. The result: I fall forward onto the concrete landing on my hands and knees. Needless to say, the next morning my left wrist hurt (including minor bruising to my hand), my right kneecap was lost in a sea of swollenness and my lower back hurt like crazy. At this point, my back still hurts and my knee is turning all sorts of fun colors.

Saturday morning I woke up @ 7:30 hungover. I laid on the couch (I was too lazy and drunk to clear my bed off the night before) until I had to get up to take a shower so I could go get my hair off. The hair on the side of my head is now 2-3 inches shorter than it used to be. I like it. Then there was pub crawl which was the most fun I've had in a long time. I drank, passed out and woke up with a hangover and went to bed again in less than 12 hours.

Sunday I woke up 2 hours before I needed to so I got up and cleaned. Then mom came to town. We went out for lunch and hung out at my apartment for a few hours. After she left, Kris, Claus, Ace and I went to Sioux Falls to go to the new Caribou that opened up. We also made a quick stop at Best Buy and had supper at Fuddruckers. Then it was back to Brookings.

On the docket for tonight is more homework and going to see Roger Clyne and the Peacemakers at Skinners. Roger Clyne is the former lead singer of The Refreshments. It should be a good show. Plus, it's at my favorite pub so they've got that going for them too.

happy friday

Last night I made cake cookies. I used funfetti cake mix and vanilla chips. They're tasty

I'm excited it's Friday. I sort of have big plans for the weekend. Though they're probably not terribly exciting for anyone but me.

Tonight I'll hopefully get some laundry done. The latest that I run out of clean socks will be tomorrow morning. I'm sure there is also be some drinking on the docket. I mixed up a strawberry daquiri bucket earlier in the week...

Tomorrow I'm getting my hair cut at 8:30. Pub crawl is tomorrow afternoon. I think it starts at noon. I'll probably regret it but you've gotta try everything once, right? After pub crawl (last year it was over at 5:30) then we'll all return to the apartment and carry on the post pub crawl tradition of watching Disney movies while passing out.

Sunday Mom is coming to visit. She didn't pick the best day to drop by, but she's been warned of my possible health condition.

Does anyone else have exciting plans?

random blabbering

I just got done registering my mom's email address so she could get onto messenger. It's pretty much the only way to talk to my brother who is in Italy. Actually getting her onto msn was one heck of a process. However, I think it's stellar that she's so excited about it.

Last night we rented the movie 'Just Friends'. The previews I saw for it made me skeptical, but it was really funny. As in it's one of the funniest movies I've seen in a long time. I suppose it depends on your type of humor. No matter what, it's worth the rental to see the end credits.

I don't want to go to class this afternoon. It's cold outside and I'd rather just sit around here and be lazy. But I'll go because I feel like I'm wasting money if I don't. And actually, it's time to go. Class starts in 18 minutes.

When it comes down to it, it'll be a good day because it's payday!

reminiscing this and that and having such a good time, oo de lally, oo de lally, golly what a day

The roads were good until we got 15 minutes south of Granite Falls, then it started to look like this--------->

Knowing I was in for the long haul, I got as much caffeine in my system as possible.

We battled ice on the winshield the entire time.

You guessed it, the roads got a lot worse.

I engaged my mad driving skills.

We almost died...17 times.

We decided to stop for a few minutes. My poor car.

We're a lot colder than we look.

We made snow angels. On the road.

At this point I was really cold.

So was Ace.

We had to clean off the sign so we knew where we were. The real story is that we were just being stupid.

Snowy trees are pretty much the most beautiful thing on earth.

spring break recap

Friday night I arrived in the Twin Cities. I spent a quiet weekend at my sister's place. On Tuesday we went to the Minnesota Zoo. While walking by the Caribou Exhibit, we had the bright idea that we should try to blend in. Personally, I think we were successful.

Except for Ace, she got a little confused.

Jess proudly displayed that she, like the camel, has two humps.

These little kids were priceless. The little boy turns to his mom and says "Mommy, I think they're breeding". The mom did everything she could not to bust out laughing.

Then we went to see a show at the Imax theater. We got a little bored while waiting so we were taking pictures with the dead sexy 3D glasses.

Wednesday morning I took Joanna and Dawn to the airport...early. It ended up being a pretty nice day so we went to the Sculpture Garden and walked around. Claussen was explaining the physics of this one to us.

We were less smart about things. We just wanted to take funny pictures.

Friday morning I got sick of my half grown out highlights so I went to Walgreens and bought hair dye. It isn't as red as that picture makes it look.

Today after I picked up Ace, we stoped at Caribou because I was feeling sleepy. This car was parked outside. I don't know if you can tell, but it says "we believe you" above the wheel well. I haven't seen anything this funny in a long time.

Then there was the drive home. After Granite Falls, the weather started getting crappy. It ended up being an amazingly fun drive. I'll post them once I get unpacked.

checking in

Well, I'm sitting here in Dawn's apartment attempting to be a fun hater and get this paper done. So far it isn't going well. Why why why do I do this to myself? If I could just get it started it wouldn't be so bad. Right now I'm at a loss for words when it comes to this paper. My mind is in spring break mode and doesn't want to come back to reality. I can't even use the excuse that I'm tired anymore. *sigh*

just say no to barnes & noble

Ok, so I could never do that. I have a hard time controlling myself when I stop in. Tonight I went in looking for two books. Even though I only found one of them, I still left the store with 3. Plus I was tempted to buy a picture book of France for Sarah and a knitting book for BriaƱ because they were fairly cheap.

I was surprised at how busy the place was at 9pm on a Saturday night. Apparently it's a good time to go book shopping. *shrug*

camping

Hey Everyone,

How do you guys feel about camping?

-Dawn and Theresa

wheeeeee!

In 3 hours and 21 minutes the past three weeks of hell will be over. At this point I'd like to apologize if I was crabby to anyone. Stupid stress. Be gone!!

I love college

But not for the classes. For the crazy shit you can get away with.

My friend Claussen made Guinness Brownies using the recipe that was posted in the cave. It seems that you can't cut them until they are completely cooled. During the cooling process, Claussen and 3 of my other friends went downtown for drinks, leaving Ace and I alone with the brownies. We promised we wouldn't take them but we never promised we wouldn't hide them. Ace and I ended up making a 9 clue scavenger hunt(the clues were in the form of a story). I've never seen four grown men panic over chocolate like that. I don't know if I've seen four women have that big of a reaction to missing chocolate. They sprinted from clue to clue. In their defense, I've never had better brownies. They were absolutley delicious.

The scavenger hunt's first 4 clues were in Claussen's apartment. Clues 5-9 were in my apartment and mailbox. The brownies were finally found here:That's right, we hid brownies in the dryer. What a great night.

spring break & lent

I finalized plans for next week! Friday night I make the voyage to the cities. I'll spend Friday-Monday nights at my sister's in Eden Prairie. My sister will be in Colorado until Sunday afternoon so I'll alone at her place with Naughty (see picture) until Sunday afternoon. Tuesday through the weekend will be spent at Dawn's place. However, she's leaving Wednesday morning for Chicago and is getting back Friday (it is Friday, right Dawn?). I'll hopefully have my paper done by then so I'll have free time to spend doing whatever. So if anyone in the cities wants to hang out, you know where I'll be.

As for lent, I want to hop on the bandwagon and give something up. I just don't know what. It has been a couple of years since I tested my will power. I propose this: you guys decide. The only non-negotiable item is coffee. Coffee needs to stay because it directly relates to my ability to think in my 8am class. Discuss.
