I'm going to miss my window

This is my view from the driveup window

don't forget about the creepy dancing ice cream cone painted on the DQ next door.

christmas tour 05

Christmas has come and past. I got a lot of good stuff and gave a lot presents that people seemed happy with. You can't do much better than that.

Over the past week and a half I have done a fair amount of traveling. Last wednesday I drove to the cities. I stopped at Matt's Bar to do a little socializing before heading to my sister's. Thursday Tina, Naughty and I headed to Mom and Dad's. Sunday I went with the fam down to Grandma and Grandpa's for Christmas there. Then on Tuesday I came back to Brookings (after a good 6 horus of shopping in Sioux Falls). This weekend I'll be wrapping up the last leg of the tour with another trip to southern Minnesota for a New Year's Eve party.

My brother Marvin is home from Colorado for the holidays and it has been great spending time with him. He heads back to the mountains on Sunday provided he behaves himself tomorrow night.

Last night we got half a foot of wet, heavy snow. The view I have out of the drive up window is beautiful. If I remember, I'll grab my camera while I'm home for lunch.

That's all for now.

Let me go home, I’m just too far from where you are, let me go home

I'm tired. I'm sick. I dread going to work tomorrow. Is it Wednesday yet? Hopefully I'm unsick by then or I won't be able to go home. I'll be better by then, right?

ETA: I saw King Kong this weekend. It was long, but good. That's all I did. :lame:

My last final was yesterday at 9. YAY! It's winter break. No school for a month!!

After my test I came to the apartment, packed and headed home for a dentist appointment. While I was there, I also got my hair cut. I'm muy happy with it. You cant tell, but there are blonde and red highlights too. Here are the pics:

yay for me!!

It's been a good day. My car is still working. It has been turned off and on several times in the past 24 hours and works like it usually does.

The best part, as most of you already know, is that I got hired for a new job today. I start on January 3rd. It will mean a pay raise, no work on weekends, and getting off of the teller line. I'll also be done at 5 as opposed to 5:30. So that's that. We'll see how it goes once I start.

new template

I finally got around to putting links on my blog because I was told they were necessary *cough*Dawn*cough* even though I'm not naming names. However, I'm not blog savvy enough to add links without changing templates, so this is what I came up with. Love it? Hate it? Indifferent? Tumbleweed? Let me know.

it lives!

Ace and I went to the bank at about 3:30. Got the jumper cables attached and went inside. Got sodas. Drank part of said sodas. Went outside at 3:45 and attempted to start the car. Didn't quite go, but it was close. So we sat there for a few minutes and tried again. Success! Then I drove around for about 45 minutes giving the alternator enough time to do it's job. So at least the beast is now in my parking lot at the apartment. I'm going to go out in a few hours and see if it still starts. Of course I'll keep you updated. I'm sure you're all dying to know :)

monday part 2

Here's how Monday ended:

It was super busy at work all day and when I balanced my drawer before leaving it was $20 long. As I'm leaving the bank at 5:45 I look at the temperature/clock thing and it says -6. Great. It's still -6. Anyway, I get into my car and it doesn't start. Joy. So my co-worker says she'll stay so I can jump my car. Super! So I get it all hooked up and get into my car. Nothing. She has to get her little girl to gymnastics so I say I'll call someone else so it can sit and charge for a bit. So my friend Claus comes with his car and we hook it up. It's -8 at this point. I decide we should go to Dairy Queen next door and sit inside while we're waiting. So we do. We get ice cream (irony?) and sit by the window so we can see the cars. Upon finishing our ice cream, we go back out. My car has just as much life as it did when we left it. At that point I say fuck it and went home (via the liquor store) and had supper. The end.

why must mondays suck?

For the first time in a long time I was fully rested at the beginning of the week. So this morning, I get up, take a shower and at 7:30 I go out to start my car. Little do I know that the latch on my back passenger door had frozen and didn't allow my door to shut after going to Hyvee Saturday night. My battery was D-E-A-D. So in order to get to my 8 am class, I woke up Ace and took her car. And I couldn't find one of my mittens. So I was walking around in -6 degree weather with no mittens. Brr.

So it's 10:50 am and class is over. I drive home and pull Ace's car up to my car. I have to crawl into my trunk through my backseat (the stupid key unlock for the trunk doesn't work and obviously the trunk button won't work because my car has zero power) to get my jumper cables. So I attach the jumper cables, start Ace's car then go to start mine. My car doesn't start. My car still isn't running at 11:25. At this point Ace needs to get to work and so do I. I go into the apartment to change clothes because Ace is going to give me a ride. I come back down and give it one last try. Success! It starts!

Now I have to get the back door to shut. I call my boss and let her know what's going on and that I'm going to be a little late. It gets to be 11:40 and the stupid door still won't shut. As a last resort Ace loops the jumper cables through the handle on the back passenger door and I tie them to the front passenger seat's head rest so the door doesn't fly open as I drive to work.

I make it to work and get clocked in. It's 11:50 at this point. I'm 20 minutes late *grumble*. I go to unlock my drawers and surprise, I don't have my keys. They're on my desk at home. So then I sit for another 10 minutes waiting for my supervisor to go get the spare key from our security officer. I actually didn't mind that so much because it gave me a chance to eat and warm my toes up. I thought they were going to fall off.

So that's my Monday so far. *sigh*

tis the season

As Dawn and I were sitting at Chipotle last weekend, we decided to send Sarah a present. What could be more fitting for a memeber of team Chipotle than a framed napkin?!

Today Brookings got about 4 inches of snow. There is a snow pile outside of our backdoor so Ace, Claus and I went out to play. Here are the pics.

back to your regularly scheduled blog

Yeah, it’s been awhile. It’s been a busy week. Here’s what happened over the long weekend:

I went back to my parent’s place in southern Minnesota for Turkey day. Needless to say, it was more stressful than I could have ever imagined. My grandfather is very sick and odds are this is his last Thanksgiving. It was the first time I’ve seen him since he’s become sick and it broke my heart. He has cancer in his brain and lungs. His muscle control is starting to go and it is hard for him to breathe. I don’t hide the fact that Thanksgiving is my holiday and I’m very thankful that I got to spend this Thanksgiving with him.

Friday night I headed out to the local bar with a bunch of friends from high school. Beer was drank, laughing was done, talk was abundant.

Saturday afternoon I headed up to the Twin Cities to spend time with my very cool “internet friends”. I arrived at Dawn’s around 5 and then we headed to Eden Prairie via St. Paul and Fridley where we picked up more people (I also met Tumbleweed). We proceeded to Champps to meet theoretical Ryan. Fun ensued, especially when Dawn ran into a wall in the bathroom. J When we got back to Fridley (via St. Paul) we found out that Kristie’s car had been broken into while we were gone. It was the fifth time her car had been broken into (that’s right, I said the fifth time). She handled it like a pro and then Bobbi, Dawn and I went to sleep.

Sunday had a fun start. About an hour after we woke up, Dawn was nice enough to remind me it was my birthday. I wouldn’t say that I forgot, but it did slip my mind. I blame it on being sleepy. We had decided the night before we were going to go ice skating so Dawn and I headed for Burnsville to pick up our skates and get Nick’s sharpened. Then we were off to Chipotle for lunch! I committed a misdemeanor and Dawn drove the get away car. :ninja: After a quick stop at Target, we headed to The Depot via the law school where we picked up Nick. Bobbi met us there. Skating was a blast. There were ice dancing duos, a guy in a sweater vest who thought he could skate and a little kid who would have no problem being the next Wayne Gretzky. And then there was my favorite person of the day, the Doogie Howser look alike:

This picture does the man no justice but the resemblance was uncanny. I tried to get a head on shot, but it didn’t work so I ended up with this picture of Nick, Dawn and Bobbi:

Getting out of Minneapolis was fun. We counted 7 guys with purple, grey and white camo pants including Darth Vikings fan:

At that point I decided I should head for home. I made what I thought was going to be a quick stop at my sister’s in Eden Prairie. While I was there I discovered there was a blizzard over Brookings and ended up staying there for the night.

Monday I drove back and worked. I left at 7:30 am and got to work at 12:45.

THE END.

AAH! I'm freaking out!

I was going to do a recap of my longer than planned weekend but I'm frantically searching for my camera, so the recap will have to wait for a bit.

ETA: the camera has been found. it was hiding in the Target bag! Doogie pictures will be posted soon.

a day of thanks

Once again, it's Thanksgiving. It is undoubtedly my favorite holiday of the year. I wanted to take the time to sit down and let you all know what I've been thankful for in the past year.

First, I'm thankful my mother is still with us. After having a horrific scare earlier in the year, I'm more grateful than ever that she is a part of my life.

I'm thankful for my family who are such loving, caring people. I'm so blessed to have them as a part of my life. Not only are they family, they are all my friends as well.

I'm thankful for my friends who put up with me on a daily basis and love me for who I am.

I'm thankful for all of the amazing new people who have entered my life. I can't imagine what life was like before them.

I'm thankful for my health and another year without any major illnesses.

I'm thankful for the ability to work. Though it might not be fun to actually go to work, I'm glad I can support myself.

I'm thankful that Tinger is out of Iraq and will be back in the states soon.

I'm thankful that the f'in yankees didn't win the world series.

I'm thankful for the edit feature on this blog. I'm sure there are things I forgot to include and I will be able to add them at a later time.

anyone wanna play rock, paper, scissors? don't pick paper!

I got this from Ace who read it on another website. Anyway, it's not important where I got it from, it's just important that you read it. I just wanted to inform everyone it isn't my original work. It explains my thoughts on picking paper:

I UNDERSTAND THAT SCISSORS CAN BEAT PAPER AND I GET HOW ROCK CAN BEAT SCISSORS. BUT THERE'S NO WAY PAPER CAN BEAT ROCK. PAPER IS SUPPOSED TO MAGICALLY WRAP AROUND ROCK LEAVING IT IMMOBILE? WHY THE HELL CAN'T PAPER DO THIS TO SCISSORS? SCREW SCISSORS, WHY CAN'T PAPER DO THIS TO PEOPLE? WHY AREN'T SHEETS OF COLLEGE-RULED NOTBOOK PAPER CONSTANTLY SUFFOCATING STUDENTS AS THEY ATTEMPT TO TAKE NOTES IN CLASS? I'LL TELL YOU WHY, BECAUSE PAPER CAN'T BEAT ANYBODY, A ROCK WOULD TEAR IT UP IN TWO SECONDS. WHEN I PLAY ROCK/PAPER/SCISSORS I ALWAYS CHOOSE ROCK. THEN WHEN SOMEBODY CLAIMS TO HAVE BEATEN ME WITH THEIR PAPER I CAN PUNCH THEM IN THE FACE WITH MY ALREADY CLENCHED FIST AND SAY "OH, I'M SORRY, I THOUGHT YOUR PAPER WOULD PROTECT YOU."

breaking news: Dawn wins friend of the day award!

After having one of the most craptacular days in recent memory, I came home to find a birthday card from Dawn! Yay! It totally made my day. The magnet from the front of the card is now fashionably displayed on my filing cabinet. Thanks Dawn!

that's all I've got.

I have a case of the Mondays

Me thinks I stayed up too late last night creating this. I'm super tired today and all of the minor everyday annoyances at work seem about 10 times worse than they actually are. I think if one more person comes through the drive-up who isn't ready to do their transaction, I will scream. Or cry. Or throw a tantrum. I don't know what I'll do but it won't be pretty.

The weekend was good. I went to Sioux Falls for the new Harry Potter flick. Go see it. It's great. I also had supper at HuHot and got a moJIto bucket at linens-n-things. It's going home with me for Thanksgiving. I have to go get the main ingredient after work today. mmm...rum. That's 4 hours from now. I don't know if I can last until then...
