Is it tacky to go to the office holiday party one week after someone from that office got laid off?

Yes. Unless the person was invited as a guest of someone who still works there.
But that's just my opinion.
Kind of, yeah.
i am not sure i understand the question.
the person who was laid off attended the party? and we're wondering if that's tacky? they were laid off! i think they deserve that one small pleasure...
if i'm off target, clarify the situation and i'll re-rule.
Upon re-reading my question, it was worded poorly.
Here's the senario: a friend of mine got laid off yesterday. Our holiday party is next Friday. I think it's a little insulting to the person who got laid off to have a holiday party a week after they get the boot. I'm just wondering how off base my thought process is.
oh, oh, oh. then yes. if they can't afford her position, they can't afford the party. hands down, tacky as hell.
I'm inclined to disagree. A holiday party, cost-wise, is insignificant compared to the cost of a worker.
At my workplace the SWAG estimate of the yearly cost per worker is $100,000 (that includes pay, insurance, 401k match, travel expenses, etc). A holiday party of a few hundred dollars is a small expense in comparison.
I just think you're feeling loyal to your friend. Unfortunately people get laid off all the time but management needs some way to keep morale up at the office.
Not that it's totally related, but somebody here in Vancouver went to their holiday party the day after they were laid off and shot and killed the boss who had delivered the news. You would think that a company would organize themselves better than to be letting someone go so close to an event like that. Know what I'm saying?
